Or maybe u can go to BOINC Manager and click on "Advanced view" then click on "Activity" and click "Suspend network activity", this will stop all the network activity to prevent downloading new tasks, don't worry this won't change any pref settings. And when you want to come back to the default BOINC Manager view, then click on "View" and choose "Simple view" in the bottom. Hope this can help:) Sorry for my English, its not my mother tounge:(
