That makes sense and fits in with the overall scheme of things. Incidentally, you should have it as policy due to the anonymous nature of SU that there's no support for folks who use work-arounds to get BOINC style stats. |
2) Message boards : Problems : Detaching Doesn't Keep Settings
Message 146 Posted 29 Jan 2019 by Yavanius |
Detaching from SU results in at least CPU usage changing to 100% and use at most 60% cpu time... |

Vote counter is broken in general. Upvote doesn't increment. |
7) Message boards : Problems : CAS@home Set to No New Work Automatically
Message 141 Posted 28 Jan 2019 by Yavanius |
After failing to get any work after being attached by SU, apparently CAS@home was set to No New Work. I scanned through the log (not scrutinized though) and did not see an entry in regards to this occurring. It wasn't me because I wasn't at the computer when SU attached it and 2 other projects after initially attaching Rosetta (and not getting any work there). Oddly, I've only gotten 4 projects attached despite setting Preferred to everything except mathematics. I would have thought SETI would have been one of the first projects attached... Yav |
8) Message boards : News : Science United passes 1 million job mark

How many users were there at that point and out of curiosity, what kind of breakdown on OS (Windows, Mac, Linux, Android)? |
9) Message boards : Suggestions : Link from BOINC Manager to SU web pages
Message 139 Posted 28 Jan 2019 by Yavanius |
I always felt Basic was too basic. After several years, there's no option to connect to an account manager in that view. In fact, there's nothing to point to Science United. Oddly, you have to switch to advanced view to see it which sort of defeats the point of trying to keep things simple. Yav |
10) Message boards : Suggestions : Adding all SU user to Team Science United
Message 138 Posted 28 Jan 2019 by Yavanius |
SU doesn't track stats generally. It tracks the basic work done but there's no credit system and accounts are anonymous with the projects. Those on BOINC likely wouldn't be motivated to abandon their long-term standings to switch over to SU, although I have because I've stopped tracking BOINC since I do Folding@home on my computer and have just been running WCG's Smash Childhood Cancer on my Android devices. |
11) Message boards : Questions : Coordinating computing
Message 137 Posted 28 Jan 2019 by Yavanius |
Science United is aimed at setting it and forgetting it. For the level of control you desire you'd have to run straight BOINC, possibly with using BAM! (from BOINCstats). It's still the same projects, but you'll have to select them yourself. Best, Yav |
12) Message boards : Problems : Can't Flag Messages on Board
Message 135 Posted 25 Jan 2019 by Yavanius |
There's a spam post in the Questions section. I can't flag it because that functionality is broken (Report fails to register when you attempt to submit it). Also, if you downvote (possibly upvote too), the counter doesn't change although internally it might (I can't see that side of course, but if I try downvoting again it says I already voted). Cheers, Yav |
13) Message boards : Suggestions : Running Science United on Google Cloud, Azure, etc
Message 131 Posted 24 Jan 2019 by Yavanius |
That would be more along the lines of something for BOINC. Science United is intended for your average computer user who would probably think cloud computing has something to do with the weather or the climate. It also is intended to be as minimally involved as possible in the user setting up the project. |
14) Message boards : Suggestions : Sponsorship Partnership
Message 130 Posted 24 Jan 2019 by Yavanius |
In Australia, Vodafone has become the primary sponsoring partner for Cancer Research: https://www.vodafone.com.au/foundation/dreamlab IMHO, if SU could get a cell company partner, even a smaller carrier, that could greatly increase the distribution of SU. ~Yav |
15) Message boards : Questions : SU & Android
Message 129 Posted 24 Jan 2019 by Yavanius |
I don't see any mention of SU & Android. I've been running Smash Childhood Cancer on my Droids, but they are on a break now in terms of new work. Was thinking of trying Science United until Folding gets their new Droid client out or something similar to SCC comes along and then I may or may not be interested in the BOINC credits at that time anyways. |
16) Message boards : Questions : About Projects
Message 7 Posted 5 Mar 2018 by Yavanius |
Do not try and attach a project, that's impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth...there is no project. Then you'll see that it is not the project that attaches, it is only yourself. |
