I have several systems that are logged in and take assignments from Science United, most tasks World Community Grid, Climate Prediction, an asteroids one, etc - all seem very help society, help science thing and I've got the CPUs and generally don't have them tasked with things. Today I see yafu, and when I google yafu it seems to come back to some number crunching thing - not much info on this project and hope my cycles are going to beneficial (to humanity vs one person / company). |

The scope of YAFU (as an algorithm) is to factorize large integers in a quick way. Factorization is important because of its role in cryptography in general; more specifically, you can look up RSA. The main objective is to try and factorize integers as large as possible (with many digits as possible), and to do that, calculations have to be made. The project's website states "YAFU's goal is to factorize numbers up to 149 digit length which are needed to bring Aliquot Sequences to a size of at least 140." source: https://yafu.myfirewall.org/yafu/ Electronic Engineering Undergraduate @ Unife - Italy |
