Hello! I've been using BOINC since several months. Recently (about 2 weeks ago) my computer froze, when I left it for several minutes. Ctrl+Alt+Del gave nothing, I could do nothing but hard reboot. It happened again and again, always after several minutes away from keyboard. Uninstalling BOINC solved this problem. Recently, I reinstalled it, but it still freezes my computer, so I had to remove it again. I'm working on Lenovo Legion notebook, Intel Core i5-8300 2,3 GHz, 8GB RAM, Windows 10. CPU usage of BOINC was set to 25%. Any clues what should I do to use BOINC again? |

Ive got exactly the same problem. I would love to hear some suggestions on how to solve this. I’ve had to stop using BOINC as it is rendering my PC unusable. |

It freezes a Dell laptop also. Have to turn off to reset. |

I have also had this problem. I have had to abort some of the GPUGrid projects that were using more than one CPU, and that seems to have helped. |

for posterity: SOLVED reinstalling BOINC without VirtualBox helped. It seems that VirtualBox has some requirements, which my computer didn't met. So: if BOINC freezes your computer, just reinstall it without VirtualBox. |

I have a HP laptop running SuSE Leap 15.0 24/7 since 2014. It has VirtualBox enabled and it is running a project QuChemPedIA@home which is a Linux project and does not use VirtualBox. Total RAM is only 8 GB. It is true that if I download a task, like Atlas@home from LHC@home that requires VirtualBox, it becomes very slow so I am avoiding them. Tullio. |
