So what does Science United actually do atm. Does it simply record projects you add manually and sign in to, or does it create accounts for the various groups automatically?

Yes, Science United creates accounts for the various groups automatically.

Science United is a new way to particate in BOINC. With Science United, computer owners volunteer for science areas rather than for specific projects. Science United assigns computers to appropriate projects; these may change over time.
