So I downloaded the combined VirtualBox and Boinc combo. Each installed separately, as far as I can tell. Boinc seems to run in the host O/S, not in VirtualBox. So what was all that for? |

I know a few projects that need VirtualBox, such some LHC@home tasks, although not all, idem Cosmology@home. I also have BOINC@TACC that needs VirtualBox but I have been unable to test it since I am swamped by Milkyway@home tasks, both CPU and GPU. I have a Linux Virtual Machine hosted on a Windows 10 PC, built using VirtualBox on the PC. Tullio |

Thx. I guess that I expected Boinc to install and run within the Virtualbox environment, possibly under some contrived or common lightweight operating system. It looks like it's no such animal. So why bother to download Virtualbox in the same .msi? It's going to take some system know-how to install a VM, and again to install Boinc within that. I do not shy from that, but there is no note ahead of or concurrent with the download that the loading into Virtualbox is a separate set of operations. Am I missing something? |

I download Virtual Box on both Windows and Linux separately from the OS by going to Oracle Virtual Box because there is the latest version. Oracle has the habit to upgrade Virtual Box very often and has no connection with boinc.berkeley.edu.But once installed with its Extension Package VB needs no particular attention. Tullio |
