Questions :
Why do I need VirtualBox if I'm already running BOINC and have other projects running?

I'm a long time BOINC "contributor"... I started back in the early 2000s with SETI@Home and now that they're closing shop temporarily they sent me over here. I'm surprised that the download screen says I need VirtualBox. Why is that? Can't I just run BOINC like I currently do with SETI and WCgrid? Thanks! |

Only LHC@home needs VirtualBox in some of their projects. Also some Cosmology@home.Milkyway,Asteroids, Einstein and SETI don't need VirtualBox. Tullio |

Only LHC@home needs VirtualBox in some of their projects. Also some Cosmology@home.Milkyway,Asteroids, Einstein and SETI don't need VirtualBox. OK - But where and how do I download it. There appears to be no obvious link. OR - is this something automatically DL'd when LHC@Home is place as an active project in BOINC? |

I open Firefox and search for VirtualBox. Then I download it for my OS. Tullio |

I'm a long time BOINC "contributor"... I started back in the early 2000s with SETI@Home and now that they're closing shop temporarily they sent me over here. Science United seems to be geared up for the casual user who isn't interested in tweaking their computer or changing over to different projects at various times, or even being involved in any leaderboards or Teams or Project Challenges. So, if you are already running BOINC, SU is not for you. As for VirtualBox - it is needed by some tasks on some projects - and it can be installed by downloading it from the boinc.berkeley.edu website - so you can download BOINC on it's own, or the "combined" BOINC+VBox download the next time BOINC needs to be upgraded on your host. regards Tim |
