Greetings,
I am a new Science United participant and wanted to check some usages before starting my computer on a daily schedule.
SSD users know the great speed we get from them but there is the concern that an application is hammering the SSD with an excessive number of writes, shortening it's life.
Here is a test I did running Science United over the planned 12 hour per day (night time) schedule. I have a Samsung 970 Pro 512 GB SSD feeding a Ryzen Threadripper 2950X (32 threads) plus a GPU. In 12 hours, checking before and after with Samsung Magician, I saw only 4 GB of writes; quite a bit less than I was expecting. Modern SSDs can do hundreds of TB of writes, so there shouldn't be any concern.
Take care, . . . Linda

This is just a correction of what I reported. Taking a 7 day average, running 12 Hrs a day, the number of SSD writes is closer to 8 GB/day. This is still low enough that there shouldn't be any concern.
