BOINCmgr doesn't shut down tasks on exit

Reported by: MarkJ Owned by: romw
Priority: Blocker Milestone: 6.12
Component: Manager Version: 6.5.0
Keywords: Shutdown Cc: Kevin Reed

Description

BOINC 6.5 on Win XP. Installed as Single-user mode.

Shutdown BOINC with exit dialog enabled, shutdown tasks check box ticked. BOINC display exit dialog screen when click okay exits. Tasks remain running (similar to Trak #814, except its not running as a service).

Choosing the "shutdown clients" option does work, and is the only way apart from killing them via task manager.

You can see from the attachments that BOINC, BOINCTRAY and the science applications are still running.

If you select "stop running science applications", I think it should work even if running as a service.

As I said selecting Advanced -> Shutdown connected client works. Well for a few seconds, the BoincMgr? tasks screen goes blank and then they are all restarted and BoincMgr? redisplays the screen. You can see them terminated via Task Manager, but then they start right up again.

Version: 6.4.56.5.0

Some more info about the tasks restarting. Click Advanced -> Shutdown connected clients -> Click okay on shutdown dialogue box (with shutdown clients box ticked). Get a "select computer to connect to" dialogue box. Click okay (computer name is blank) and then tasks will restart. If click cancel on this dialogue box they do not restart.

BOINC 6.5.0 under WinXP (32 bit).

Milestone: Undetermined6.10

Setting the milestone to 6.10.

the new exit dialog was put in at the request of WCG back when the default install scenario was still Protected Mode install. We have reverted back to the single user install as the default so that GPU computing would be possible out of the box.

This whole scenario needs to be rethought out.
