Description
BOINCManager is blocking sleep in Mac OS X, and thus overriding the Energy Saver settings.
I am using a Macbook (late 2008 model) and if BOINCManager is open (and suspended due to battery operation) it will inhibit sleep, and run the battery flat.

Replying to Torrance: Have you set the following option (available in web-based preferences for SETI@home and other projects)?
Suspend work if no mouse/keyboard activity in last xxx minutes (Needed to enter low-power mode on some computers)

Replying to charlief:
The BOINCManager is already suspended as per the option to suspend computer when running from battery, so I don't think that web option would help. (?)
My set up is simply: 1. When powered by mains electricity compute after X minutes of no activity, and do not stop until activity resumes. 2. When powered by battery suspend all computing. MacOSX sleeps after 10 minutes inactivity.
It's the battery setting that is causing the problem, as since it's not allowing the computer to sleep it's simply running the battery dead.

After writing him to ask for more information, Torrance replied:
Regarding my attached projects, I am only participating in Seti@home.
While I can reproduce the blocking of sleep with BOINCManager consistently, there is the possibility that this problem is specific to these late-2008 Macbooks. iTunes as well seems to be blocking sleep, but not consistently so, and there are a number of other irregularities. I spoke to AppleCare and the guy on the other end also had the same model of Macbook and claimed to be having the same problems.
Since the problem occurs with Apple's own iTunes software and is apparently not specific to BOINC, I am closing this ticket.
Assigning to Charlie, the Mac guru.
