Description
This one is reported by mrdhockey in this post on the BOINC forums.
One thing I did find is that if Boinc was installed as a service in the prior version that if during the upgrade you select anything other than installing it as a service it will fail the installation. You will have to uninstall it and then reinstall it as a service to get it to work.
Note: I did not uninstall the older version that was installed as a service prior to installation of the upgrade at that point you have uninstalled then upgrade and then you are stuck because you can't uninstall the old version. You must reinstall the upgrade as a service). It would probably work if I had uninstalled the old version prior to installing the upgrade. It's not a big deal and I don't know if install shield has an option to uninstall the old version while installing the upgrade.
Enhancement:
It might just need a warning on the screen to select whether to install it as a service, shared Installation or Single user, letting people know that if it was installed as a service in the prior version and you want to change it to not be a service, that you should exit the installation and uninstall the prior version before installing the upgrade.
I put it in as a defect, as that it is. I don't think the enhancement will be of urgency since Boinc v6 will only be installed as a service. But if a last 5.10 is still released, perhaps that a warning can be added. - Jord.
