Description (last modified by )
It would be really nice to have an option to have no-points setting. This would allow a user to disable all to the points statistics and say 'I am using BOINC with a modified application to help the project with finishing WUs faster and not to cheat for points'
And/Or? the other way round: 'This is a no-points project. You won't get any points, but since we have a great goal, you maybe want to help us.'
The reason is that the points feature can make lots problems:
- No difference between cheating and helping users
- Projects keep their apps closed source to prevent cheatind
- It's a subystem, which also causes load and may have bugs/lead to bugs

Credit is for things other than competition too: 1) increasing credit assures user that everything is working 2) credit lets projects (and BOINC) measure FLOPS.
This is important for various reasons, e.g. to convince funding agencies that volunteer computing is worth investing in.
A related idea might be an anonymous contribution option.
