BM: system tray icon does not work under Linux

Description

Starting boincmgr with the -s or --systray option does not show any tray icon (nor BOINC Manager's main window) under GNOME/KDE/Xfce although the boincmgr process is running. This has been tested under Debian Linux with wxWidgets 2.6 and 2.8. I've also tested the BOINC Manager from the self-extracting archive, but without luck. Is this supposed to work?

Where is that switch documented?

boincmgr --help lists those options.
