#499 closed Defect (fixed)

Possible upload bug.

Description

Cosmology was off line for about 5 days with a server failure. After 2 days I noticed that the pending uploads of the output files were all erroring out with:

Mo 12 Nov 2007 17:30:34 CET|Cosmology@Home|Started upload of wu_103007_200246_1_2_4 Mo 12 Nov 2007 17:30:37 CET|Cosmology@Home|Giving up on upload of wu_103007_200246_1_2_4: file not found

I was using 5.10.28 under windows XP Pro.

Now two other users are reporting similar “giving up on uploads, file not found” both under windows and Linux. The common factors are that this occurred only for 5.10.28 and that the failure occurred after 2 days and not the two weeks that I understand BOINC should wait before giving up on uploads.

Searching the forums I found this message: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=2249&nowrap=true#13612 in which a user on SHA-1 had noted the same behaviour after 2 days.

This is not going to be an easy bug to test for without knocking out a project upload server! Could someone check the code and see if my suspicions are correct? Dave.

"File not found" on an upload means the project doesn't have a file_upload_handler program installed. I checked in a change to the client that treats this as a transient error.
