Minor improvements to Spanish localization

Reported by: Nicolas Owned by: romw
Priority: Minor Milestone: Undetermined
Component: Manager - Localization Version:
Keywords: Cc:

Description (last modified by Nicolas)

On the Attach new project wizard:

  • The title "Choose a project" and the text "To choose a project, click its name or type its URL below![...]" isn't translated to Spanish.
  • After choosing a project and clicking Next (Siguiente), the access key for "Sí, usuario existente" is the same as for "Siguiente".
  • "¿Ha ejecutando usted ya Este proyecto?" I think even an automated translator could do better. Suggestion: "¿Ha ejecutado este proyecto antes?"

Isn't boinc_loc the place for things like this?

Then what is the "Localization" component for?

I also posted a link to this ticket on boinc_loc, anyway.

In the Clientgui/AccountInfoPage?

Most of the Spanish translations look good to me, but I'd like to clarify a couple of points (where I could be mistaken). Really, a forum would be the best place to discuss details of translation before submission rather than here or a mailing list.

1.
In two places - here

#: clientgui/AdvancedFrame.cpp:486
msgid "Shut down the currently connected core client"
msgstr "Cerrar el núcleo del cliente actualmente conectado"

and here

#: clientgui/AdvancedFrame.cpp:1243
#, c-format
msgid ""
"%s is going to shutdown the core client it is currently connected to.\n"
"NOTE: Choosing 'OK' will cause the select new computer dialog to appear \n"
"so you can attach to a different core client."
msgstr ""
"%s va a cerrar el núcleo del cliente al que está actualmente conectado.\n"
"NOTA: Si elige 'Aceptar' provocará que aparezca el diálogo para seleccionar un nuevo ordenador\n"
"de forma que pueda unirse a un nuevo núcleo de cliente."

Is 'núcleo del cliente' really right, or could this be understood as the core or CPU of the computer? Might it be better to say for the first 'Cerrar el cliente núcleo actualmente conectado'

and for the second

'va a cerrar el cliente núcleo al que está actualmente conectado' and 'de forma que pueda unirse a un nuevo cliente núcleo'.

2.

#: clientgui/DlgAdvPreferencesBase.cpp:534
msgid " Leave applications in memory while suspended"
msgstr "Dejar las aplicaciones en memoria cuando esta suspendido"

I think this should be 'Dejar las aplicaciones en memoria mientras están suspendidas'.

3.

#: clientgui/DlgOptions.cpp:257[[BR]] #: clientgui/DlgOptions.cpp:313[[BR]] msgid "Leave these blank if not needed"
msgstr "Dejar en blanco si no es necesario"

I'd prefer 'Dejarlos en blanco si no se necesitan'.

4.

#: clientgui/sg_ImageButton.cpp:94[[BR]] msgid "Paused: User initiatied. Click 'Resume' to continue"
msgstr "Suspendido: Usuario reiniciado. Pulse 'Continuar' para seguir"

The English 'unitiated' is misspelled; I've no idea whether this matters.

Greetings to the BOINC team, volunteers, and all people crunching work units. This project is very important and all contributions are important.

Improvements from Nicolas:

First: The title "Choose a project" and the text "To choose a project, click its name or type its URL below[...]" isn't translated to Spanish.

It is translated on .po file and I can see it with BOINC 5.10.20. I do not know which BOINC version are you using. Perhaps you are using other version and it has other 'msgid'

Second:

After choosing a project and clicking Next (Siguiente), the access key for "Sí, usuario existente" is the same as for "Siguiente".

I think the first translation is the best, because the user have to fill e-mail and password

Third:

"¿Ha ejecutando usted ya Este proyecto?" I think even an automated translator could do better. Suggestion: "¿Ha ejecutado este proyecto antes?"

I agree with you the second is best. I was the last translator and I did not translate it. It was translated before. I think the previous translator done a good work.

Improvements from Mo:

  1. About 'Core client'. As I know, for this term there is no official translation. I think that to translate it is needed to know what is the core client. Is it a service where the client attachs or is the client ataching to the core of the opperating system or a thread or other? Is not the same 'núcleo del cliente' and 'cliente nucleo'.
  1. msgid " Leave applications in memory while suspended" msgstr "Dejar las aplicaciones en memoria cuando esta suspendido"

'Dejar las aplicaciones en memoria mientras están suspendidas'.

The first translation is talking about the BOINC client is suspended, and the second about the applications runing in BOINC. I think as you this should be the second, because the applications are suspended, not boinc. BOINC is like a 'operating system'.

#: clientgui/DlgOptions.cpp:257[[BR]] #: clientgui/DlgOptions.cpp:313[[BR]] msgid "Leave these blank if not needed"

msgstr "Dejar en blanco si no es necesario"

I'd prefer 'Dejarlos en blanco si no se necesitan'.

I think the second is the best, is more clear.

  1. #: clientgui/sg_ImageButton.cpp:94[[BR]] msgid "Paused: User initiatied. Click 'Resume' to continue" msgstr "Suspendido: Usuario reiniciado. Pulse 'Continuar' para seguir"

The English 'unitiated' is misspelled; I've no idea whether this matters.

This misspelling has no effect to spanish translation, only if it is corrected in BOINC manager. But this means in the english language client this is misspelled.

I don't have any problem with the translation. It's the access key (underlined letter) that causes problems. What does Alt-S do if both the "Si, usuario existente" option and "Siguiente" (button on bottom of wizard) have the same 's' access key?

I don't think 'núcleo del cliente' and 'cliente núcleo' mean the same. Núcleo del cliente assumes that only one computer is involved and you are referring to its core or central part. In English it would be 'the core of the client'. Cliente núcleo assumes that a group of two or more computers is involved and you are referring only to the one principal computer.

I think this facility will allow the user of a group of networked computers to see the project work of all the computers, even the remote ones, through the boinc manager of one core/principal computer.

For 'core client' I thought of 'cliente maestro' but if the other computers are not technically slaves, the phrase wouldn't be a good idea. As well as 'cliente núcleo', two other possibilities could be 'cliente madre' or 'cliente principal'.

Now I see what you are talking about. I think "cliente núcleo" is the best option, in this configuration is the core of many others computers. I think this explains well this networking concept.
