Description

I had a request through the help desk as to whether it's possible for Google, etc not to spider user pages.

[11:39:09 PM] -- says: I noticed that the data about how much my pc worked is available to search engines and it is an irritant for me
[11:39:22 PM] Kathryn Marks says: You mean your stats?
[11:39:30 PM] -- says: yes, I am in IT consultancy and people do "google" me
[11:39:49 PM] -- says: I would rather not have these stats pop up in google
[11:40:14 PM] -- says: so now on, is there a setting that I can use to turn off stat sharing?

My only advice to him was to use a user name different from his real name/typical user name and to hide his computers at the individual projects.

As he specifically asked me to request this, I'm filing the Trac Ticket.

It's not only user pages. The name is also in exported stats, so it will be visible in stats sites. Moreover, some bots do not obbey robots.txt, so the data will still be available on search.

So, it's up to the user to protect his privacy. Having a separate nickname for BOINC would help in this case.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
