log files fill up

Posted by: john Date: 6:07 AM 03-07-2005 The server log files fill and do not seem to send a clear message to the administators that they need to be cleaned or given more room. When they log is full the project will report 'down for mantainence' and not respond to the users.

Posted by: waltg Date: 12:01 AM 03-25-2006 Logroatate can be used to cycle the logs if the server has the ability to close and repopen the log files.

Posted by: waltg Date: 12:05 AM 03-25-2006 Some servers respond to SIGHUP by closing and reopening the log files, freeing up the old ones to be rotated.
