boinc client hangs

Description
osx client spins on failing call to socketpair. This results in everything stopping.
The error message says too many open files but that doesn't appear to be true so I will have to look further.
It happens every day or so.

It appears that it is running out of file descriptors, when that happens because of a needed dns lookup the failure is not noticed and boinc spins. In other cases boinc exits and is restarted.
