Hello,

The BOINC client reports an odd amount of system memory on Debian GNU/kFreeBSD - this was recently reported in Debian's BTS, please see ​http://bugs.debian.org/456586 for more details. The submitter kindly attached a patch to fix this issue for him and I'm attaching it to this ticket for your convenience. Note that I didn't had the time to review or test this patch.

Debian GNU/kFreeBSD is different from traditional FreeBSD because it consists of GNU userland using the GNU C library on top of FreeBSD's kernel, coupled with the regular Debian package set.

On this page of the BOINC user survey results available to view from the BOINC website index page ​http://boinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/poll_improved_text.html there's a post dated 24 Oct 2007 that contains a fairly large horizontally scrolling message saying Tlaxcala Hackers Team, plus a picture that doesn't display for me. I don't think this means the survey or the BOINC website has actually been hacked - it's just the contents of a message. But it gives a bad impression and needs to be deleted.

I quickly went through the rest of the posts on that very long page and found nothing else abnormal.

I'm on a x64 Vista machine and just installed 6.1.5 from 5.10.30. I had my 5 client running in its own user account for management/security sake and here are my notes from there.

Install

Program directory: c:\Program Files (x86)\BOINC\

Data directory: C:\ProgramData?\BOINC\ /*Wiki states C:\Users\All Users\BOINC Symlinks shouldn't be relied upon, they can be removed in later releases.*/

Unchecked allow all users on this computer to control BOINC /*Wiki states all boxes are off, my protected and all users boxes were checked*/

Post Install

Installing user didn't have access to Program directory or Data directory /*Wiki states Administrators have access, and while a part of the Administrators group, I still didn't have access*/

BOINC service wasn't started. Upon checking the Windows Event Log, these errors were logged: First this:
